Another busy week of enquiries shows that demand is on the increase for Data Recovery Services as the temperature increases..

Over the last 5 years abc Data Recovery Ltd has been developing a high capacity data recovery lab, each year adding additional resources to improve efficiency of our data recovery technicians and ensure the cost effective pricing on which the company was built can be maintained.

Despite substantial investment in our ISO-3 annually certified clean room, numerous types of data recovery equipment and recruitment of dedicated data recovery technicians and support staff ,  we are finding the increase in demand due to the heatwave unprecidented.

If the hot weather does break and turn into thunderstorms we will be on hand to help those affected by adverse weather conditions. .. Lightening strikes often cause power surges causing computer, server and storage device failures and SSD and USB are not immune to data loss just because they are solid state.

During the first quarter of 2010 the pressure was on to be ready for the "the data recovery silly season" . This is the time of year when the temperature rises and there is a distinct increase in demand for hard disk repairs and rebuilds over and above normal levels of enquiries.

In the past some data recovery companies would increase their charges in line with demand when given the opportunity but abc Data Recovery Ltd was built to cope with such surges in demand and keep to its cost effective fair pricing policy-  some would say cheap data recovery yet at the success rates of the more well known names.

Natural disasters such as the Sheffield Floods of 2007,  Carribean Hurricanes 2008,  Italian Earthquakes of 2009 and disaster recovery both national and International involving   Sharepoint and Exchange Server RAID recoveries so far in  2010 has proved the ability for the lab to absorb extra work without "extracharging".

  abc Data Recovery Ltd continues to grow whilst increasing on the savings made by its clients to over £1million,  all part of a winning formula for the company.

We never publicise a clients data loss situation without permission,  especially when  National and International companies ask for our assistance and ask for  a non disclosure agreement (nda),  however we are pleased with the data recovery feedback, testimonials and reviews that many home users, students and SME's provide.

Another useful refinement was the launch of "R3"   R3Cover Mac and R3Cover Win (ver 4.5) which has enabled many hundreds of individuals to recover their data without the need to send away to a lab, and with the soon to be released version 5 and extra recruitment we will be bringing the price of the software down but we will ensure we can continue our high levels of data recovery software support.  

During these years of recession abc Data Recovery have maintained a consistant doubling of business and whilst in percentage terms it is only  around 35%  this year it is still a substantial increase.

Our business and future planning is for continued growth  (watch this space for an update) because there are now thousands of satisfied customers spreading the word for us.

But in order to grow constant investment and development has to be maintained, coping with the increase in demand from consumers has its own challenges especially when the weather is creating a surge in demand.

But even the best laid plans can prove to create their own issues and the summer heatwave whilst promised has still come as a shock in more ways than one.

Recently the team at ABC Data Recovery Ltd went on a "Hard Drive"  yes I know it's corny but those racing carts are good fun, the only problem was the heat !.  As the oldest of us in a 3 stage race which totalled 50 laps in 85 Degrees I should have known that a full racing fireproof suit,  hood and racing helmet would mean that my core temperature would increase. It was only the following day that the headaches caused by heat stress really affected me.

Similarly we are receiving more hard disks and memory sticks in to the lab not just because of our increasing market share, because with increased temperatures, comes the risk of increased static discharge or spindle sizures.

Static can lead to blown diodes on the PCB -  printed circuit board , or damaged power and usb connections. The heat build up if not regulated and controlled by air conditioning can also lead to other head faults and mechanical failures in hard disk drives,

A tell tale sign of any system overheating especially servers is when the fans step up their speed and remain "thrashing" in an attempt to bring the temperature down, but this also increases the airflow and if the air is not de- ionised to reduce the chance of static discharge then there is an increased chance of problems developing  -drive failure results and potential data loss and business continuity put at risk.

The heat can also lead to premature failure in the spindle bearings, and often a computer that appears sluggish and slow to respond could be heading toward a complete failure of the disk drive. You switch off at the end of a day and the next morning the hard disk is inaccessible.

Whilst failure of any storage device be it a server RAID array, hard disk drive, flash  / SSD or backup tape can happen at any time, the increase in temperature does increase demand for data recovery services.

ABC Data Recovery Ltd are leaders in the field of high capacity rapid data recovery, and this years increase in capacity has been facilitated by additional imaging capacity, more PC3000 data extractors, additional flash memory readers and a 10Gbps network connection to ensure the huge quantities of recovered data do not affect the network data transfer rates.

This years increase in capacity has been achieved with the same staffing levels, however we do have one problem at the moment, our flexibility is being hampered by the need for another dedicated customer sales representative to ensure we are not a victim of our own success and whilst our technicians do try to help out on the phones it is clear we need another member of staff.

Despite being the largest independant data recovery operations in the UK (many  others claim to be) we are are still a small company committed to the highest customer services provision and data recovery success rates.

Keeping both aspects of the data recovery business  (sales / techical support) working together ensures the lab can react quickly to disaster recovery situations whilst maintaining throughput of day to day "bread and butter"  rebuilds, repairs and recovery of hard drives and memory sticks.
