Solid State Drives
DescriptionWhat Is A Solid State Drive?
Solid State Drives (SSD) are a storage medium for data which uses non-volatile NAND flash memory. And come in mainly three sizes :- 1.8 inch, 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch drives. The SSD has no moving parts and the seek time for data is negligible and are therefore faster than hard drives on read processes.
SSD’s can use volatile SRAM or DRAM and these types are called RAM drives, which incorporate a battery and backup storage system in case of power failure.
The SSD can be installed in a laptop but per unit Gb the drive is more expensive than hard drives.
