Hard Drive Fragmentation
Hard Drive Fragmentation
Description
Is A Fragmented Drive Bad?
Hard Drive Fragmentation -
A partially fragmented hard drive in itself is not a severe problem but it will slow down the performance of both writes to and writes from your hard disk. at first this will be barely noticeable especially on newer faster drives but as time progress the more often you read and write data from the drive the worse it will become sometimes to the point of bringing a computer to an almost dead stop.
One of the major contributors to a slow computer is disk fragmentation so in this respect it can be seen as bad, especially if the computer is used for complex programs or is in constant use throughout the day. Another major problem with disk fragmentation is that the hard drive has to work far faster and harder than it should really need to so this can decrease the life of your hard drive and increase the chances of drive failure.
