Degraded Drive

Description
What is A Degraded Hard Drive?

Hard drive failures account for nearly 40 percent of data recovery requirements and one aspect of drive failure is hard drive degradation. Essentially a hard drive consists of a number (in most cases) of magnetised platters and heads to read the magnetic variations in simple terms.

Any disruption to continuity of the magnetic surface can cause a disk sector to lose the ability to store data, this is commonly termed as a bad sector. Advanced in drive technology mean that drive can now re-map data to usable areas of the drive so the drive continues to function.

One major form of degradation is caused by excessive heat which causes demagnetisation and subsequently drive instability to the point that the data can no longer be accessed and hard drive recovery becomes neccessary.
