When you create a volume on a disk you reserve an area on the disk and then map it out according to the method the operating system uses to work out where it should store the files. To access the files you have to “mount the volume” which is like using a particular type of map – say an NTFS map or an ENT2 map to retrieve the various data items stored on the disk.

A disk drive can possibly have several volumes assigned within it and when they are mounted the mounted volume can be assigned a separate drive letter which the user sees as an area to store files.

Volumes can be deleted and even formatted by mistake and the recovery can be treated like an undelete file or partition for the whole volume, a simple master file table recovery from within the volume or a reinstallation build if all copies of your root (boot) disk are damaged, or if certain critical files are lost due to file system damage.

Data Retrieval can be effected from failed RAID 5 arrays regardless of the type of server or controller that originally created the data and regardless of the number of drives, (3 to 8 or more) including in most cases the operating system no matter if it is :- Microsoft, Mac, Solaris, Linux and Unix.

The use of Professional Data Recovery Software providing there is no damage to the storage device can result in a full recovery, if in doubt on how to use data recovery software, consult a data recovery expert.
